The Board of the United Way of Fostoria awarded $15,000 in Community Impact Grants for its 2024 funding. Additionally, three more projects were funded as memorials to LaVerne Anderson.

St Vincent de Paul received $10,000 for continuing a successful bedbug extermination program for the needy in Fostoria. 

The Fostoria Community Arts Council received $2,500 in support of expanding and enhancing its Summer Concert Series, workshops and the studio. Geary Family YMCA received $2,000 in support of youth activities in the community room at the Y. Cristo Rey Center received $500 for Fostoria client immigration expenses.

Community Impact Grants address a significant community need in the United Way focus areas of education, health, income stability and basic human needs. Startup projects, expansion of existing successful programs, and/or addressing unmet needs in the community are of particular interest. Applications were reviewed by a committee of community volunteers which recommended funding to the UWF board. 

In recognition of a bequest from the LaVerne Anderson estate to United Way, special projects acknowledging her interests were solicited. The Fostoria Senior Citizens Center received $500 to start a music program at the center. First Step Center for Domestic Violence Center received $900 for raised garden beds for its residents. Vision 2020, representing the City of Fostoria, received $1,644 to establish a LaVerne Anderson wildflower garden. 

The United Way of Fostoria is a charitable organization created by the citizens of Fostoria to enrich the quality of life for individuals and families in Fostoria. The funds used for CIG grants come from an annual trust distribution.
